Orthorexia nervosa? Healthy Eating Disorder? Poppycock!

There’s a new eating disorder that was recently reported in London’s Guardian newspaper and originally came from a Colorado Doctor Steven Bratman, MD who coined the phrase...It’s called the "Healthy Eating Disorder" otherwise known as orthorexia nervosa.

The symptoms of this new, and in my opinion “fabricated”, mental disease as the article states is that, "Fixation with healthy eating can be a sign of a serious psychological disorder. Orthorexics commonly have rigid rules around eating. Refusing to touch sugar, salt, caffeine, alcohol, wheat, gluten, yeast, soy, corn and dairy foods is just the start of their diet restrictions. Any foods that have come into contact with pesticides, herbicides or contain artificial additives are also out…” The newspaper further reports that, "The obsession about which foods are "good" and which are "bad" means orthorexics can end up malnourished."

So now according to ”the experts” wanting organic food instead of GMO and junk food means your crazy, there’s something wrong with you and you will get malnutrition. Poppycock! Okay, I get if you carry anything too far and don't use common sense that you could get sick but it sure makes ME wonder about what “behind the scenes” role of the pharmaceutical companies and the traditional medical communities might have had in making up this new disease or maybe the "good" doctor was looking for publicity. Could they all be scrambling to get profit dollars by trying to convince people that good food is dangerous and that GMO food and drugs are the safer alternative? After they diagnose you with orthorexia nervosa is the cure force feeding you drugs and junk food?

I mean really does this Healthy Eating Disorder make sense to you? It doesn’t to me...so put me down for that mental disorder...Yup I’m crazy!

However, it is interesting how most of the doctors I had 18 years ago, who were around my age at the time...are dead...and me, who by my eating habits-(NO wheat, dairy, refined sugar, preservatives, artificial colorings, GMO foods, fermentation, alcohol, only certain meats, fish, fruits and vegetables)...is apparently classified as orthorexic! Well...I haven’t been ill in over 18 years, nor needed a traditional doctor, nor have taken any prescription drugs in all that time. In fact I'm in top physical health.

So Poppycock to your story Guardian newspaper and to you too Steven Bratman, MD!
