Popular Topics for Aspiring Radio Show Guests

By Debbi Dachinger

Over 119 million people a week listen to internet radio which is getting much more play these days than traditional stations. Many of the biggest talk show hosts like to have guests on the air, usually via telephone. Although traditional radio wants topics steeped in sensationalism, controversy, political rabble-rousing and negative topics to create drama and spike emotions, there are some great positive topics that can still get you 'in back of the mike' and not contribute negative energy to the people and the planet. Here are some of them:

1.  Health, Fitness, Weight Loss, Nutrition & Alternative Healing

2.  Saving Money - Consumer Scams

3.  Sex & Relationships

4.   Schools, Education & Parenting

5.   Hollywood, Celebrities, TV, Movies & Entertainment

6.   Sports, Superstars and Outrageous Salaries

7.   Making Money, Stocks, Investments, Retirement & Taxes

8.   Computers, The Internet & High Tech Innovations

9.   Autos: Performance, Care, Purchase, Repair & Maintenance

10.  Travel: Deals, Destinations & Dangers

11.  Careers, Jobs & Business

12.  Home & Garden Improvement and Maintenance

If you can find something unique and compelling to say about one of these topics, and ESPECIALLY if you can tie it into a topical current event, chances are you'd be a terrific call-in guest on talk radio.  And, if you have a product (like a book or website), most of the time you'll even have
the opportunity to "plug" it on the air.

Susun Weed: I Dare You To Live a Positive Life

by Debbi Dachinger, Dare To Dream Radio Host, Wed. 11am PT www.healthylife.net

I recently interviewed Susun Weed from the Green Blessings radio show on HealthyLife.net. We had a brilliant conversation - see how this influences you. I dare you to take Susun's dare!

Debbi: What is the greatest lesson you've learned?

Susun: The greatest lesson I have learned is that there are no lessons. Life is an experience, not a test. There are no right answers; there are no wrong answers. Life is a picture puzzle and every piece is important, and every piece has its place. Learning lessons separates us from the intimate awareness of our life, moment to moment. No lessons!

Debbi: What is something you are deeply grateful for?

Susun:  I am deeply grateful for the plants. They feed me, clothe me, shelter me, warm me, and give me breath. They provide me with medicine in exchange for a little effort on my part. They delight my senses with color, form, scent, taste, and texture. They dance in my dreams with fairy wings. They are the Ancient Ones, the wise ones. They grow absolutely everywhere, showing me that persistence always furthers. And they give me something to talk about, to write about, and to love. Green blessings are everywhere.

Debbi: What's the most important thing you do to keep your life positive?

Susun:  My first teacher of Zen gave me my lifetime koan: The difference between good and bad is the sickness of the human mind. It is all one, you see.

Debbi: If you could DARE the listeners to do anything that will create positive change for them, what would you dare them to do today?

Susun: I dare you to start drinking nourishing herbal infusions before this week is over. Learn how to make them by watching me do it on YouTube, or by reading any of my books. Buy at least four ounces of dried stinging nettle (energy), or oatstraw (sex), or linden (anti-inflammatory), or  violet (soothing). You can order them online or by mail. Put one ounce, by weight, of one dried herb into a quart jar and add boiling water to the top. Cover tightly and steep for 4-10 hours. Strain. Refrigerate. Drink within 36 hours. Repeat. I drink a quart of nourishing herbal infusion daily, and have been doing so for more than a quarter of a century. I dare you to join me in optimizing your health, the Wise Woman Way.

Tune in to Green Blessings!  the 1st Thursday every month  9am PT on www.healthylife.net.

Dr. Jane Greer: I Dare You To Live a Positive Life

by Debbi Dachinger, Dare To Dream Radio Host, Wed. 11am PT www.healthylife.net

I recently interviewed Dr. Greer, from Dr. Jane's Doctor On Call. Her radio show is filled with meaningful conversations on health, life and love with prominent guests on HealthyLife.net. We had a brilliant conversation - see how this influences you. I dare you to take Dr. Jane's dare!

Debbi: What is the greatest lesson you've learned?

Dr. Jane: The greatest lesson I've learned is that when someone does a great favor for you or is supportive to you, gratitude is about more than simply thanking the person - pay it forward and pass it on to others.

Debbi: What is something you are deeply grateful for?

Dr. Jane: On that same note, I'm grateful for the opportunity to pass it on in my career - in the work I do with my patients; in the books I've written and my Doctor On Call radio series, where I can share things I've found helpful and useful; and in every aspect of my practice.

Debbi: What's the most important thing you do to keep your life positive?

Dr. Jane:  I exercise and meditate six days a week because it gives me the energy, vitality, structure, and discipline to live a positive life. It provides me with an emotional backbone and inner focus to get through each day, and it gives me the strength to stay focused throughout my day and in all the interactions and relationships in my life.

Debbi: If you could DARE the listeners to do anything that will create positive change for them, what would you dare them to do today?

Dr. Jane:  I would dare them to say three positive, supportive things to the people that they love instead of negative, angry statements.

Tune in to Dr. Jane Greer's Doctor On Call radio which airs Tuesdays at 11am PT on www.healthylife.net

Dr. Gloria Gilbere: I Dare You To Live a Positive Life

by Debbi Dachinger, Dare To Dream Radio Host, Wed. 11am PT www.healthylife.net

I recently interviewed Dr. Gloria, from the Dr Gloria: Health Detective radio show on HealthyLife.net. We had a brilliant conversation - see how this influences you. I dare you to take Gloria's dare!

D:  What is the greatest lesson you've learned?

Gloria: IN LIFE: When life gives you lemons make lemonade - but sweeten it with whatever feeds your soul and  IN HEALTH: That there are NO quick fixes. Wellness requires personal commitment for the lifelong journey.

D: What is something you are deeply grateful for?

Gloria: IN LIFE: My chosen family (my friends and colleagues) and IN HEALTH: The health challenges I've endured because it's made me a better doctor  - been there, done that, and I know what works and what doesn't. which allows me to better guide those who consult with me.

D: What's the most important thing you do (or be) to keep your life positive?

Gloria: IN LIFE: To constantly remind myself that I can afford ANYTHING in life (I'm not referring to money) EXCEPT being around negative people and those that don't celebrate who I am - negativity is a toxic contagious disease, period! IN HEALTH: I practice what I teach. I completely avoid nightshade foods because they induce inflammation and also no wheat/gluten, no processed food.  I hydrate very well daily. I take care of my intestinal health (where most of our immune system is based). I use medical food protein shakes when I need to detox and  I avoid sugar mostly because I have diabetes in my family and sugar is fuel that burns at your health. I get 7-8 hours' sleep nightly.
Another important thing I do for myself is something a friend reminded me of: The way you begin your day is the way you'll end it. So begin by feeding your soul/spirit with some quiet time so the rest of the day doesn't progress at high speed that will burn you out quickly. Sometimes for me that means having my organic coffee while catching up with the latest in the world with no one else around. Other times it means a quiet few minutes of meditation giving thanks for the previous day and asking for guidance for the day at hand. When I'm really stressed I make a list of all the things I'm grateful for and soon the stress turns to appreciation of why I'm experiencing whatever I'm being challenged with and the lesson in the challenge.

D: If you could DARE the listeners to do anything that will create positive change for them, what will you dare them to do today?

Gloria:  IN LIFE: Walk away from anything or anybody that is negative without any discussion, apologies or attitude. When you simply become "unavailable" physically and emotionally and what you DON'T say speaks louder than words! Try it for one month and then go back to the people and things that were not celebrating YOU and you'll have learned how you give away your power and essence without often realizing it. IN HEALTH: Avoid all wheat/gluten, foods in the nightshade family and all processed foods for 90 days. Then go back and have whatever you're craving most - that's your poison because Body Talk Never Lies and you'll feel the amazing difference, particularly if you have any kind of inflammatory condition - which most people do.

Tune in to the Dr. Gloria: Health Detective which airs: the 1st Monday at 9:am PT

Daena Smoller: I Dare You: To Live a Positive Life!

by Debbi Dachinger, Dare To Dream Radio Host, Wed. 11am PT www.healthylife.net

I recently interviewed Daena Smoller from the HealthyLife.net Radio Show Larry & Daena Do VEGAS. We had a brilliant conversation. I dare you to accept Daena's dare!

Debbi: What is the greatest lesson you’ve learned?

Daena: The greatest lesson I've ever learned has 3 parts, really.  The first is that you truly DO need to 'put the oxygen mask on yourself first', before you can help anyone else because you can't really trust others to take care of you, even when you pay them to do so.  The second is always pay attention to that intuitive voice inside.  And the third is NEVER take a bath and leave something to cook in the toaster oven unattended (still sorry about that Mom & Dad!)

Debbi: What is something you are deeply grateful for?

Daena:    I'm truly grateful for having had young, hip, well-educated, cultured and gracious parents who proved every day, how much they loved their children.

Debbi: What’s the most important thing you do to keep your life positive?

Daena: I'd have to say that trying to do some good for myself in thought, through food and exercise and deeds for both myself and others, helps to keep my life positive.  And, knowing that I never lied, cheated or stole anything that belonged to someone else, doesn't hurt either!

Debbi: If you could DARE the listeners to do anything that will create positive change for them, what would you dare them to do today?

Daena:  If I could DARE listeners to do something that could create a positive change for them, I would have to turn my attention back to my own #3... do your best to think a happy thought or two, be grateful every day for 'something', treat your body well and help someone else - even if it's as small an effort as picking up a piece of trash outside and disposing of it correctly. You never know who will see you perform such a deed and become inspired to do something 'good', too.

Listen to Larry & Daena DO VEGAS! at www.healthylife.net the Thursdays 2pm PT and call in with YOUR questions during the show between 9 - 10 am, PT at 800-555-5453.

Guy Finley: I Dare You: To Live a Positive Life!

by Debbi Dachinger, Dare To Dream Radio Host, Wed. 11am PT www.healthylife.net

I recently interviewed Guy Finley, from the VISIONARY SERIES Radio show Guy Finley Live! on HealthyLife.net. We had a brilliant conversation. I dare you to accept Guy’s dare!

Debbi: What is the greatest lesson you’ve learned?

GUY:  Our life is not about “winning” the way we envision such victories. When we learn, as we are all intended to, that our life can only be fulfilled from the inside out, then we gradually weary of thinking that we can satisfy our soul with ‘stuff.’ To learn this we must be thrown into conditions that reveal to us what we are in each moment. This kind of testing by life teaches us how to let go of who we have been so that we can realize another, Higher level of self that awaits us IF we will agree to go through what we must.

Debbi: What is something you are deeply grateful for?

GUY: For me this life is about two things. First, life is about letting go. We come here with nothing and we leave only with what we have come to understand about ourselves and our Creator. Second, life is a preparation for love. Everything that happens to us is for our higher education, a course in becoming conscious of what really matters and what doesn’t. We are not alone in this journey through life, and never have been. What we seek, seeks us. What we find, wherever we look, is always ourselves. And the longing that sets us in search of love, is put in us by Love itself.

Debbi: What’s the most important thing you do to keep your life positive?

GUY: My first and greatest happiness is rooting out the source of unhappiness in myself. Then it is from the true contentment that comes with becoming a more whole and happier person; that we have the resources and the energy it takes to help others realize the truths that we have. The Principles I teach are Timeless and they do not “belong” to me anymore than the sight of a grand sunrise can be any person’s possession. However, the most natural thing in the world is to want to tell others about something you have come across that is beautiful, life-healing, and truth confirming. Call it a romance with Truth if you will, and when we are in love we want everyone to share our joy.

Debbi: If you could DARE the listeners to do anything that will create positive change for them, what would you dare them to do today?

GUY: So you might say that when all the other roads taken through this life have proven themselves powerless to deliver the wholeness they promised, there’s only one path left: it’s called “Time to find the truth about yourself.” Right this moment, and in all moments thereafter – whenever we can remember to do so – let us break into the chain of our own thoughts in order to see what we have been identified with…without our knowing it. This one act of deliberately dropping being identified with the thought-self, in favor of seeing it in action, delivers us into a place where the stressful problems of the moment before, no longer have the power to drag us into their weary world. And if we will *dare to let go* like this, even when our own thoughts try to frighten us for choosing so, we will soon see within us the birth of a whole new sense of self that cannot be shaken by any trial or
trouble because its secret nature is the Ground of Reality itself.

Listen to GUY FINLEY LIVE!  at www.healthylife.net the 3rd Tues. of the Month 9am PT and do call in with YOUR questions during the show between 9 - 10 am, PT at 800-555-5453.

Dr. Margaret McCraw - I Dare You: To Live a Positive Life

by Debbi Dachinger, Dare To Dream Radio Host, Wed. 11am PT www.healthylife.net

I recently interviewed Dr. Margaret McCraw, from HARMONY SERIES: TUNE INTO LOVE Radio show on HealthyLife.net. We had a brilliant conversation. I dare you to accept Margaret's dare!

Debbi: What is the greatest lesson you've learned?

Margaret:  That judgment of another imprisons the person doing the judging. That acceptance of another doesn't mean agreement. That compassion frees the soul and aligns us with abundance.

Debbi: What is something you are deeply grateful for?

Margaret:  The patience of my spiritual teachers who continually help me gain insight into my day-to-day life experiences.

Debbi:   What's the most important thing you do to keep your life positive?

Margaret:   When I feel negative emotion about something I've observed or experienced I say to myself: "How do I want this situation to be?"  Then I immediately focus my attention on how I want it to be and I choose to stop thinking about the current reality of what I am observing.

Debbi:  If you could DARE the listeners to do anything that will create positive change for them, what will you dare them to do today?

Margaret: Pay close attention and begin to correspond their thoughts, emotions and beliefs with what they are attracting into their life. If they are not happy with what they are attracting then they must choose to think, feel and believe in such a way that they will attract something different...those things that they say they desire.

James Bean: I Dare You To Live a Positive Life

by Debbi Dachinger, Dare To Dream Radio Host, Wed. 11am PT
www.healthylife.net

I recently interviewed James Bean, from SPIRITUAL AWAKENING on HealthyLife.net. We had a brilliant conversation - see how this influences you. I dare you to take James' dare!

Debbi:  What is the greatest lesson you've learned?

James: To be relaxed, content to be myself and not bothered by what other people think....to be genuine, authentic, staying in touch with my vision and passion, never giving up on that vision....ever...no matter what.

Debbi: What is something you are deeply grateful for?

James: Am very grateful for the Internet revolution of the 90's up to the present. Gone are the dark days of all our freedom of speech and creativity being tethered to the veto-power of a few narrow-minded media gatekeepers with their five designated categories of: sports talk, news talk, rock, country, and top-40 radio! "I'm sick and tired of hearing things From uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocritics All I want is the truth. Just gimme some truth I've had enough of reading things By neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians All I want is the truth Just gimme some truth" -- John Lennon, lyrics from "Gimme Some Truth" The new networking power of the Internet has represented a kind of greater legalization of free speech, spirituality, and musical diversity like nothing else! HealthyLifeNet founded by Linda Mackenzie is a great example of this, with an oasis of positive programming that makes the world a better place.

Debbi: What's the most important thing you do (or be) to keep your life positive?

James: Two things actually: 1) Meditation, which provides repose, insight, inner wisdom, and a renewed spiritual charge, and 2), the wisdom of the "Sages of the Ages", the inspiration and guidance of all those mystics, masters, saints and luminaries of the world religions and schools of spirituality.

Debbi: If you could DARE the listeners to do anything that will create positive change for them, what will you dare them to do today?

James: Choose to become vegan. Just start transitioning to a vegan diet. It's never too late to learn new things about food, nutrition and the healing effects of a plant-based diet. Your future self will be glad you did.

HOST OF THE MONTH: Dr. Jane Greer

Dr. Jane Greer
"Doc On Call"
Tuesdays, 11 a.m. PT

Each month we focus on one of our great hosts and this month we are talking to Dr. Jane Greer a 20-year nationally known therapist, author, feature writer and TV guest expert.
Dr. Jane's HealthyLife.net Archive Page
Dr. Jane's Website

HL- What led you to become a psychotherapist?
Starting in junior high school, I always loved talking with my friends and helping them work out boyfriend problems and anything else they were dealing with. As I got older, I discovered that helping people was a career choice and pursued it to acquire the skills to add to my innate love of finding solutions to difficulties and making life easier to deal with. It's a natural fit.

HL- What was your most fun TV interview as an expert?
Actually, there were many that were really fun. One TV show I really enjoyed was when I was featured as a guest on "To Tell the Truth" as the Sex Columnist for Redbook magazine. I managed to fool everyone, the audience, and celebrity panel!

HL- How do you relax?
The things I love to do to relax include reading thriller books, and magazines, doing yoga, listening to music, watching television, ballroom dancing, going to movies, going out to dinner, spending time with family and friends, shopping, traveling, and brushing my dog.

HL- When should someone seek a psychotherapist?
Someone should seek help when your unhappiness with yourself, a relationship you're in, or a situation you're dealing with such as a job, friendship, family matter affects you on a regular basis and leaves you feeling, alone, misunderstood, angry, disappointed, helpless, and stuck. That's the point at which these negative feelings can become like quicksand and make it hard for you to find your way out of their hold. Professional and objective help will give you both the perspective and the tools you can use to regain control and change things for the better for yourself.

HL-What do you like to cover on your "Doctor on Call" radio show? I love to talk with anyone who has some expertise in a given area that will be helpful to pass on to the listeners so that they can learn new information which they can then use to enhance their lives. Authors, doctors, comedians, educators, musicians, anyone who has a personal story to tell that will help others is welcome as a guest. Plus on the last Tuesday of the month at 11am PT we do a tasteful show called "Let's Talk Sex."

HL- How is your message universal?
We're so much more alike than different. We all want to feel good about ourselves, love and be loved, use our talents and be recognized for them, and ultimately to find meaning in life. My major in college was comparative religions, and I loved scribbling in the margins "I just read this same point in my Taoism class" or "This is also in the chapter on Judaism." These underlying truths that are in every spiritual tradition are what Aldous Huxley called The Perennial Philosophy. I think that the more we look at those underlying connectors, rather than at our differences, the better off we'll be.

HL- What can we expect on your future shows?
More interesting, exciting, and entertaining guests covering a range of topics that all deal with enhancing your self esteem and being your best self possible, including exercise, diet, skin, care as well as coping with illness and death and overcoming adversity in living.

HL- What is your favorite word and why?
My favorite word is fun. I love to have it; it's the best thing to share with everyone and anyone. I enjoy making each encounter fun, and making the difficult easier by turning challenges into fun.

Formaldehyde: The Next Silent Killer?

by Faith Ranoli

Formaldehyde is found in most homes in multiple applications from pressed wood products, insulation and chemicals adhering to clothing imported from other countries. The EPA studies indicate a link from formaldehyde to cancer, asthma and allergies - in people and animals.

Formaldehyde is colorless but definitely has a noticeable pungent odor causing eyes and throats to burn and eyes to water. For those who are very sensitive or have chemical sensitivities, nausea and breathing difficulties may be experienced. Chemical sensitive people experience fatigue, skin rash and other allergic reactions.

Rising temperatures, humidity and the air exchange rate can affect indoor air containing formaldehyde. As temps rise formaldehyde is released from glues, adhesives and sealants on interior plywood, particleboard, medium density fiberboard. Some paints containing preservatives, the finish on some papers, building insulation, textiles, environmental tobacco smoke and improperly vented fuel burning appliances will also cause a release of formaldehyde.

It's everywhere trapped in your home or office. For those working from home or animals that are continually in a closed office or home, the risks are greater.

So what can you do about it?

Here are some very simple tips to lower the concentration of formaldehyde in your home or office:

o Ventilate your home, open the windows and doors and air out your home daily.
o Use exterior grade pressed woods, no VOC paints and finishes.
o Inspect your fuel burring appliances for proper venting and operation.
o Use your air conditioner to lower the temps in your home during the summer.
o Install only building materials containing the American National Standards Institute stamp indicating lower or no formaldehyde levels.
o When you buy clothing, wash it before wearing it.
o Remove formaldehyde-containing products if you can and seal those that must remain with a no VOC sealant.

How to Cool Down Your pets Quickly

By Wendy Nan Rees - Radio Host of Wendy's Animal Talk
Every Tuesday, 1pm Pacific Time on wwww.healthylife.net

· Important Signs to Recognize When Your Pet Is Getting Overheated: Dogs and cats do not sweat like us, they pant to cool themselves off. If they get too hot you must step in and help.
· Watch Their Tongue. If it becomes swollen and hanging out, it's time to take action.
· Take Your Pet To Water. Put them in a cool bath or take the garden hose and run cool water under their belly to cool them off fast.
· Use Alcohol On A Cotton Pad To Wipe Down Their Paws. This will help cool them down fast. Do not use alcohol on their body!!!
· Offer Them Water. If a dog or cat is too hot, they will not drink so this is where I will use a Pupsicle, to invite them to drink. Please be sure to wet them down at the same time. (If they are overheated they need all the help you can give them).
· If Your Pet Is Not Getting Cooler. It may be time to call your vet and take them in.
· Never Leave Your Pet In The Car. A car heats up 10 times hotter than the air outside—and can be disastrous for your pet.
