Study Shows Listeners DO Hear Radio Ads

A new study released from Arbitron, Media Monitors and Coleman
Insights dispels the myth that radio stations get a lower radio
audience during commercial breaks than actual program segments.
The study shows more than 93% of the radio audience is retained
during commercial breaks in almost every market, throughout
almost every month and almost every day part in the year.
Some study highlights:
- Programs with a 1-3 minute commercial break delivered almost
the same audience. Longer commercial breaks delivered only
slightly less of an audience.

- 18 to 24 year old radio audiences retained 90% of its audience
during commercial breaks while 65+ audiences retained 98%.
- Talk stations retained 99% of its audience during commercial
breaks while music stations retained 88%
The study was based on 17,896,325 unique commercial breaks involving 61,902,473
advertising minutes with the average radio station airing 2.6 commercial breaks at the
average of almost nine minutes per hour of advertising. The average commercial time
lasted approximately 3.5 minutes.
This is a bright and positive note for HealthyLife.net Advertisers because
HealthyLife.Net airs shorter commercial breaks than the study average which
according to the study retains the highest audience; it is a talk format
station which according to the study retains 99% of its audience; plus 49%
of HealthyLife.Net listeners are 55+, which again according to the study
retains 98% of its audience during commercial breaks.

Listeners DO hear our Advertiser commercials.
Ask about our economical - 2012 6-Pack Advertising Campaign!
It’s more than just voice ads plus, you’ll get 1,240 markets

Staying Focused in an Internet Age of Distractions

By James Bean

The folk musician Pete Seeger once said: "Technology will save us if it doesn't wipe us out first." The same Internet that creates an avenue for cyber-attacks is also providing the opportunity for people from all nations (imaginary lines drawn on maps but not visible from space) to be able to communicate with one another, hopefully affirming their desire for life, love, prosperity, and working out their differences.

The Internet could save the world by empowering its people to collectively save themselves. Seeger often made coments about radio and "democratizing technology", expressing the hope that: "Maybe the 21st Century will be the Century of the Democratization of Technology. This is Pete Seeger signing off and saying don't forget to make music yourselves." Actually his famous song "Little Boxes" reminds me of the world of radio as it once was just a few short years ago, in what now can be described as the pre Internet age: "Little boxes on the hillside, little boxes made of ticky tacky, little boxes, little boxes, little boxes, all the same. There's a green one, and a pink one, and a blue one, and a yellow one, and they're all made out of ticky tacky, and they all look just the same." The full song at Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywgJLw21UqU

The mediocrity (media-ocrity) of the "vast wasteland" of channels and frequencies, with all it's conformity, is finally being transcended in this Internet Age. Rather than being limited to a handful of local media outlets zealously preaching a gospel of rock, country, or right-wing political talk radio, the global "Democratization of Technology" is just a mouse-click away.

Now everyone potentially has a microphone, a blog, an ability to access information, to network, to share ideas and organize new communities as never before in all of human history. Now many with an urge to broadcast, can do so. One might say the creative human spirit is finally free, and: "This time it was right, it would work, and no one would have to get nailed to anything." (Douglas Adams, "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy") Yet, there is always the danger that the same dullness-of-spirit that reflected and echoed back to us a vast media wasteland of "five hundred channels and still nothing on", could end up dumbing down, slowing down, over-regulating, or filtering this great Type One Civilization means of global communication known as the Internet.

There are growing signs of this already, both near and far. Still, I think at present, the greatest danger for now is people failing to prioritize, failing to pay enough close attention to, and support, the causes that are most important to them. In the pre Internet Age the problem was denial or slowness of information - lack of access, only a limited number of speakers, microphones, and channels. These days however, the main concern is our attention being scattered. We are drowning in a sea of information ranging from the ridiculous to the sublime, and hopefully not multitasking ourselves into a new vast cyber wasteland. Facebook for example. My opinion is that, for some, the Facebook experience is getting to be a bit scattered, out-of-focus. As people not only join a few groups and pages that reflect the causes they really care about, but also join ("Like") hundreds or perhaps even thousands! of additional pages, how can one pay attention to much of anything anymore?

It is the same for Internet radio. May the creative voices stand out, be heard, not submerged below the noise level, not lost in the static, not starving and dehydrating. May the creative people, the webcasters with a vision for a positive future for humanity and the planet we call home, the innovative, truly receive the support they need, so that these torchbearers may thrive, teach, transform -- being many stars collectively forming one light. HealthyLife.Net radio network holds a torch and has lighted the way in internet radio since 2002.

The metaphor of the musician: If a street musician is a masterful player, throw some "coins" into his hat or guitar case, and you may get to enjoy hearing him again and again. Without the musician there is no music. "A human being's attention is the most precious treasure he possesses." (Edward Salim Michael, "The Law of Attention - Nada Yoga and the Way of Inner Vigilance") "All peoples of this earth weigh equal. Heading as they are toward one goal, common to all....Let all come forth and march in loving union; The greater the trials, the more united we shall be. Together we shall overpower the onslaught of time, and learn to light the torch of love in one and all......Let us find the remedy which raises us from the wheel of life, Fills our whole being with love, and alchemizes us into the divine."(Darshan Singh, from, "The Cry of the Soul")

Chef Gordon Ramsey on HealthyLife.Net

FRIDAY, AUGUST 6 AT 7am & 7pm PT & ARCHIVED TUNE IN TO HEALTHYLIFE.NET News@7
http://www.healthylife.net/HRNnews7.html

You can count on Gayl Murphy to give you the headsup on what's happening with who in the Entertainment industry this week! Tune in to the A&E segment on HRN News@7 and you'll also hear an interview with Chef Gordon Ramsay - the Award winning British chef, restaurant owner and focus of the reality television show, "Hell's Kitchen"!

ABOUT GORDON RAMSAY
Gordon Ramsay has been awarded a total of 12 Michelin Stars and, in 2001, became one of only three chefs in the United Kingdom to hold three Michelin stars at one time. Ramsay was born in Johnstone, Scotland and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon, England from the age of 5. Ramsay has described his early life as "hopelessly itinerant", as his family moved constantly due to the aspirations and failures of his father. In 1976, they finally settled in Stratford-upon-Avon where he grew up in the Bishopton area of town.

Ramsay played football and was first chosen to play under-14 football at age 12. He was chosen to play for Warwickshire. His football career was marked by a number of injuries, causing him to remark later in life, "Perhaps I was doomed when it came to football". In mid-1984, Ramsay had a trial with Rangers, the club he supported as a boy. He seriously injured his knee, smashing the cartilage during training. Ramsay continued to train and play on the injured knee, tearing a cruciate ligament during a squash game. He never fully recovered from the double injury.

By this time, Ramsay's interest in cooking had already begun, and rather than be known as "the football player with the gammy knee" at age 19, Ramsay paid more serious attention to his culinary education. In the late 1980s, he worked as a commis chef at the Wroxton House Hotel, then ran the kitchen and 60-seat dining room at the Wickham Arms. Ramsay then moved to London, where he worked in a series of restaurants until being inspired to work for the temperamental Marco Pierre White at Harveys.

After working at 'Harveys' Ramsay, tired of "the rages and the bullying and violence", decided that the way to further advance his career was to study French cuisine. In 2007, Ramsay opened his first Irish restaurant, Gordon Ramsay at Powerscourt, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Powerscourt, Co. Wicklow, Ireland.

In May 2008 Ramsay opened his first U.S. west coast restaurant, in Los Angeles, California. Situated in the former Bel-Age hotel on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, the hotel has been renovated and re-named The London West Hollywood. The restaurant is called Boxwood. Many episodes of Ramsay's U.S. series Hell's Kitchen are recorded in Southern California.

Arbitron or Arbitrary?

Arbitron and Edison Research have released their “2010 Infinite Dial” Report. I repeat the question I asked them in 2004 at the RAIN Internet Radio Conference held at the NAB 2004 convention (when the Internet total suspected audience size was 32 million)…“How can Arbitron/Edison conduct a relevant study representing over 70 million internet listeners when they did a telephone survey of 1,753 people age 12 and older?”

I mean math was not my strongest subject in school, although I did become a pretty competent and respected data com engineer, and must admit I still shake when I think of my Probabilities & Statistics college class – but please correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t 1% of 70 million equal to 700,000?

Isn’t Arbitron-Edison’s sampling of 1,753 people interviewed in this survey just a little short of even 1% of the Internet’s 70 million total listeners? Years ago I was told that Arbitron’s numbers represented a 12:1 ratio (1 person interviewed = 12 people’s views). So if we even use this equation the number of 1,753 people becomes 21,036 people, which is still a little over 600,000+ short of a 1% sampling.

So although I personally hold Arbitron-Edison’s sampling base suspect, I do applaud them for trying to give us something! However most of the data in their report does not jive with HealthyLife.Net Radio Network’s data. The basis of our demographic breakdown comes from our clubhouse where people actually sign up and give pertinent information that is requested when they join.

Now Morgan Stanley just released an Internet Trends Report. Although not a survey, it is a commentary by various contributors AND Morgan Stanley does add a disclosure statement on their report which reads, “Morgan Stanley does not seek and do business with companies covered in Morgan Stanley research. As a result, Investors should be aware that the firm does have a conflict of interest that could affect the objectivity of Morgan Stanley Research. Investors should consider Morgan Stanley Research as only a single factor in making their investment decision.”

Seems to me that Arbitron/Edison should probably put some type of similar disclosure on their research study since much, if not all, their sources of funds comes from the radio industry who are their clients and thus they may perhaps have a vested interest that may or may not affect objectivity.

The whole point of this is that the radio industry is changing so fast. I wonder if Arbitron-Edison by doing things the same old way of using extrapolated numbers (and make no mistake PPM is still the same old way) are the people who base their decisions on this data truly being served correctly? I just want to go on record that I have my doubts.

Rare Rhino Pregnancy Gives Hope to Species

Andalas-Ratu love story proves conservation efforts can work

CINCINNATI and LOS ANGELES and SUMATRA, Indonesia, Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Conservationists across the world are celebrating a pregnancy in one of the world's most endangered species, the Sumatran Rhino. The pregnancy of female Ratu, born in Indonesia, and male Andalas, the first of only three Sumatran rhinos born in captivity in more than 112 years, is giving hope to international rhino biologists. The breeding occurred at Indonesia's Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary (SRS) in Way Kambas National Park following months of gradual introduction by scent, sound, sight and physical proximity. The calf is expected to be born in May 2011.

This is no ordinary pregnancy. Ratu wandered into a village just outside Way Kambas National Park in 2006; Andalas was born at the Cincinnati Zoo in 2001, raised at the Los Angeles Zoo and then transferred to SRS in 2007. With help from Dr. Robin Radcliffe of the International Rhino Foundation's (IRF) Rhino Conservation Medicine Program, the then-5 1/2-year-old Andalas journeyed more than 10,000 miles on a 63-hour trip by plane, truck and ferry.

"A combination of sound science, international collaboration among government, non-profits, and zoos, as well as timing and personal chemistry, has led to this groundbreaking event," said Dr. Susie Ellis, IRF executive director. "Sumatran rhino numbers have decreased by more than 50 percent over the last 15 years in the wild."

The Sumatran rhino population is estimated at approximately 200 individuals in the wild and 10 currently in captivity worldwide. Ratu's pregnancy represents the hope for a future generation.

Dr. Terri Roth, director of Cincinnati Zoo's Center for Conservation and Research of Endangered Wildlife (CREW) and vice president for IRF's Asia programs, has used her extensive training in reproductive biology to produce three Sumatran rhinos beginning with Andalas in 2001.

"Sumatran rhinos are very solitary by nature and aggressive towards one another except when a female is in estrus," said Dr. Roth. "Through science, we can determine when the female is ready to ovulate so she is paired with a male at the right time and fighting is minimized while the likelihood of conception is optimized. It is wonderful to see the science developed at CREW help our Indonesian colleagues achieve success in Sumatra."

MEN ARE STUPID AND THEY LIKE BIG BOOBS

By Daena Smoller

Got your attention, didn’t I? But I can’t take the credit...it’s actually from the mind and mouth of one of America’s funniest women, Joan Rivers. I’ve been a fan of Joan Rivers since her first nights of guest-hosting the Johnny Carson Show.

I remember years (and years) ago, I was working for an advertising agency as the one and only copy writer and where I garnered my first experiences a television commercial producer. One of the agency’s largest clients was a corporation that owned a massive nation-wide chain of mall jewelry stores; the store names varied by market. Joan Rivers was the jewelry chain spokesperson and I was psyched because I got to write her quotes and copy and...you know, the whole ‘only one person away from knowing (fill in the blank)’ type of thing. Note: The only downside for me was the project of writing the entire jewelry catalog. Next time you pick up a store catalog, pity the poor person who wrote it as it’s just about the most mind-numbing thing in the world to write, that is, next to a credit card application, but that’s another story.

Years later, I got to perform on stage at the world-famous Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip and all I could think of was that I was standing on the same stage as many very funny women had like Roseanne, Sandra Bernhard and of course, Joan Rivers!

And this Tuesday, December 1st, I’ll be sure to tune into Dr. Jane Greer’s show, DOCTOR ON CALL, as her guest will be one of my all-time favorites, Joan Rivers! By the way, “MEN ARE STUPID AND THEY LIKE BIG BOOBS” is her show title...need I say more?

Yes I must - YOU ROCK JOAN RIVERS!...and those are my boobs!

Choose to Remember the Light

by Guy Finley

The Wise Ones have always taught the great gift of remembering the Living Light and the practice of placing ourselves in its presence before we embrace anything else. Of course the elevated nature of this kind of remembrance in the face of our trials requires our deliberate and conscious willing of it; but, to paraphrase St. Augustine, "My remembrance of thee is really an effect of thee remembering me." Which means that everything about Reality is already set up to help us succeed with our new aim.

So, in that same moment when you realize that something painful from your past has again pressed its way into you, holding you hostage to a hated image or painful regret, here is what to do: right there, right in that Now, instead of capitulating into that familiar state of feeling yourself to be a captive of what this pain tells you that you must remember (along with all of its suggested solutions for ending the suffering), you choose to remember the Light. Here is a quick look at what this new inner action entails.

Instead of being drawn into a struggle with that unwanted sense of conflict, complete with its cast of supporting characters drawn from your past, intentionally withdraw your attention from that stage show. And at the same time as you close the curtain on it, bring all of your reclaimed attention into the Now. Come awake to the sense of your own physical body. Observe what thoughts and feelings are pressing themselves into your awareness and, while working in the Now like this, welcome into you a conscious remembrance of the Light, of God's Life, of the whole truth as best you understand it.

To help get you started, here are a few other suggestions. When an angry thought flashes in your mind, accompanied by the fiery sensations born of recalling some injustice done to you in the past, instead of remembering the resentments this little image stirs in you, turn the tables on it. Bring its little troubled life into your remembrance of that greater presence within you that dwells well beyond its punishing power. Work like this whenever you can and, like a pebble tossed into a deep pond, the ripple effects of that past pain will simply disappear into the healing nature of the Now. Instead of a life of endless resistance, you will learn the timeless secret of how to replace any form of darkness with the Light you have chosen over it.

Choose to remember the Light. Let it fight for you. Not only will this Living Intelligence lift you above the fray of all that should be forgotten, but it also will guide you back home to a timeless place in yourself where the past no longer dwells.

Listen to and Call In (800-555-5453) to the "Guy Finley Live" Radio Show on Healthylife.net the Third Tuesday of Every Month at 9:00 a.m. PST.

Question...
If your company isn't known, how are people going to know how to buy your product or service?

Branding is the way to accomplish this. According to a new LinkedIn/Harris Poll, the majority (92%) of advertisers are using Internet advertising followed by print advertising (88%).

HealthyLife.Net's ad packages combine Internet advertising with your click-through banner ads and Internet Radio advertising with voice ad spots - so you get a double bang of branding for your buck. In fact 26 bangs for your buck since we stream from our site and are simulcast 24/7 on 25 additional partner sites including Microsoft, WiFi, PDAs, Blackberries, private radio networks and more.

It's true that radio advertising is about frequency and reach --but here's a secret--it's really NOT about how many listeners a radio station gets but how many times the SAME listener hears your ad. We have loyal listeners and have reached over 30 million of them since 2002.

So if you're trying to brand your company and reach a large loyal, niche market of people who tune in to us for a happy, healthy life drop us an email at ad@healthylife.net. We'll design a campaign that's right for you to fit your budget.
